Introduction
Last few weeks ago, the men/Christ Carpenters had its 1st General Meeting. We had a very nice heavy breakfast and afterwards had a walksercise in the Phoenix Park for around half an hour (not sure how long it was). And when we came back. We had a few chat and gradually became quite as we started to watch a movie (what a nice way to relax after the walk).

Movie Reflection
The movie was about the 4 men who are serving the force and an ordinary family guy who eventually became part of the group after an extraordinary circumstance. Each of them has a unique way of life and each has his own struggle.

The Movie and Real Life
When I watched the trailer of this movie, the first thing that came into my mind was “oh I think I already have an idea of what was all about” basing my thoughts on the filmmaker and producer. But it caught me by surprise because it was entirely different from what I’ve been expecting it to happen.
As fathers we tend to think like that, if not all the time, its most of the time. That we already know what will happen. Thinking that in a family, the men are in control of everything (highest ranking official kumbaga). As we watch the movie, I noticed that everybody was so silent. The men seem to be in-tune and seriously occupied with it. At first, some are smiling and might be saying (hey that’s me! hehehe). Some might be saying (hey I’m like that guy protecting my family!)… But as the movie progress and reach its turning point, everybody became speechless and dead silent as all eyes are on the screen. And so the story goes…

But a movie is just a movie and life is real. And the truth is “Who is a good father that doesn’t like to have his own family to prosper and have a bright future?” Of course we do. Admit it or not, we fathers, we are too busy doing things on our own way. i.e. Full time jobs, part-time jobs, Friends Hang-outs, Church Involvement/Ministry or Ministries, extra-curricular activities, basketball, volleyball, Internet, YouTube, Letmewatchthis.com, Facebook, Modern Warfare 3 and so on.. We spend so much time in/with them and before we knew it, we miss precious opportunity to share our “love in action” with our love-ones.

Encouragement
Father plays a very important role in the family. It is through us that our children will pattern their future. It is from us that a child will learn how to react on things, decide on things and stand on things later in life. While our wives help in raising up our kids, they were never intended to carry the weight alone. Nonetheless we thank them. But we can’t hide the fact that a child needs a Dad.

Invitation
This morning as we sign on this resolution and present to our families, we are ask God to help us truly understand how crucial our role is as a father that we need to be. We believe that God desires for us to courageously step up and do whatever it takes to be involved in the lives of our children. Not only there to provide but to walk with them through their young lives and be a visual representation of the character of God, their father in heaven. We should love our children and seek to win their hearts. We should protect them, discipline them and teach them about God. We should model how to walk with integrity and treat others with respect and should call them responsible men and women who live their lives for what matters in eternity.

Warning
Some men will hear this and mock it, or ignore it. But as a father, let us be warned, that we are accountable to God for the position of influence he has given us. We cannot afford to sit back and relax while our kids suffer and one day realizes that our jobs or hobbies have no eternal value, but the souls of our children have. Some men will agree with this but have no resolve to live it out. Instead, let us not live by ourselves; let us not waste the opportunity to leave a godly legacy for the next generation. Let us be, regardless of the mistakes we’ve made in the past, regardless of what our fathers did not do for us, will give the strength of our arms and the rest of our days to loving God with all that we are and to teach our children to do the same. And whenever possible, to love and mentor others who have no father in their lives but who desperately need help and direction.

Conclusion
And so if you accept this responsibility and embrace it as a privilege then come. We are now inviting any man whose heart is willing and full of courage to join us in this resolution. May the strength and grace of God be upon us, as we say “I will?”

To measure God’s love is just impossible. Knowing that we were born sinners and none of us deserve to be in His kingdom, God himself made a way so that man can be reunited with Him. He sent His only son to die and to suffer in behalf of us. What an amazing love.

On 29 Jan 2012 Sunday message entitled, “A New Creation” by Pastora Patricia Rivera, three things have struck me. One is that God has given us free will in spite of everything that He has done for us. God did not force us to come to him, but rather, invites us. According to Ephesians 5:8, “For you were once in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord”. You cannot be both. We have an option to become one in Him or to remain in darkness. Another thing is that being “A New Creation” means that we are transformed by God, by His grace. As sinners, we were not just filthy individuals who were clothed nicely but rather are now totally renewed by God by His grace and mercy inside out. The same person, but having a different perspective, that God did not just save us but has given us a new life. Being called as a “Christian” does not automatically indicate that we are indeed a new creation. This can be seen through our “fruits” or the products of our actions/ choices. In becoming a new creation, we are also to embrace the new life that God has given us, for His good and perfect will, a life that honours and pleases God.

Lastly, it is all about knowing the truth. Knowing the truth that God sent His Son to die in our place and that we have been redeemed by the blood of Christ is the key. As humans, we are vulnerable to commit sin. Becoming children of God, we still sin, but because we are a new creation, by God’s grace we are being made aware of our sins. There is repentance and the tendency to sin decreases in time. Not knowing about this truth can cause us to be defeated Christians. Satan wants us to believe in a lie about who we are in our walk with God. As “New Creations” we are to embrace the “new us” and enjoy the new relationship we have with God.

In the last few days, I’ve been very busy with work, household chores, children’s school activities, etc. Sometimes I felt like I just wanted to just walk away, be alone and take my most needed break. Why am I exhausted?
As Christians, we are called to influence. We are not called to be inspired but to be an inspiration. How can I be an influencer or an inspiration to another if I can’t even handle my own circumstances? Yes, I have the desire to reach out for others, but desire is not enough if I myself wasn’t prepared.

“God’s greatest desire is our greatest need – relationship with Him.”

Following Jesus’ example, Jesus knew He needed to get away and be alone with God, so he sends the crowds away.-(Mark 6:45-46). Ministry is exhausting. Dealing with people and their issues takes a toll. Being used by God can be physically and mentally demanding. So Jesus seeks rest, especially in the middle of high ministry demands.

Life’s distractions and duties can compete with our desire to spend time with God- then before we know it, we’ve drifted in our devotion to Him. But the Father desires to commune with us on a regular/daily basis. Cultivating an intimate relationship requires a commitment. Just like a close friendship, a good marriage, an intimate relationship with the Lord requires time. We were designed to fellowship with God, and it is the greatest pleasure our souls will ever know on earth.

Jesus withdrew to the mountain to be alone with God and pray before he chose the twelve disciples.-(Luke 6:12-13). He didn’t choose the twelve disciples and then ask God to bless his choice. No, he spent the night in prayer before he chose the twelve. When faced with decisions, whether they appear important or not, we need to follow the example of our Lord.

To grow in relationship with Heavenly Father, we need consistent communion with Him. We have to expose ourselves to the truth if we want to grow. And the same holds true in our spiritual lives. We must act on the truth. It is not enough to know about God. It is not enough to know what God wants you to do. It is not enough to know how to apply his word. If we are going to build a solid foundation, we must actually DO what God wants us to do. Following the will of the Father meant a life characterized by obedience to all that the Father has commanded. Thus, those who do the will of the Father would be those people who live Godly, holy lives- a life that is consecrated or set apart.

Do you want to grow in your relationship with God? LET’S LEARN FROM THE MASTER!

BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS – New Year’s Eve Reflection

Pastor Manny De Leon

31 December 2011

Joshua 1:1-9 speaks about God’s faithfulness and His presence. Joshua was chosen by God to continue the task given to Moses in leading the Israel into the Promise land- the same promise he made to Abraham and his descendants many years ago. God chose Moses to deliver the message. But there were uncertainties and difficulties that came forth. They fell into unbelief and disobedience toward God, but God never failed to abandon his promise for them. After the death of Moses, God then called Joshua to lead the people and fulfill this same promise that there is a land to possess. God proved that not because Moses had died, it did not mean that His plans were dead as well. We must always be assured that it is important to see the faithfulness of God in receiving His promises in our lives.

In today’s situation, life is still not easy or should we say, it is even harder as what it used be. Life is still not free from uncertainties, troubles and hardships. No one knows what will happen, what the future holds and what we can expect. As years pass, the meaning of the word “Success” has evolved. The meaning and its value has adapted with the change of time. The problem is- it has now halted to equate with material possessions, educational achievements and career growth. We may have everything the world can offer but still we are not successful. The question remains on what is it actually to be successful? What is it really to be prosperous? The answer to these questions is simple, yet genuine and absolute. TO BE SUCCESSFUL IS TO BE THE PERSON WHAT GOD WANTS US TO BE AND DO WHAT GOD WANTS US TO DO. The world translates the word SUCCESS differently as the Bible defines it. We should decide according to the will of God, do what is right in His eyes without any compromise and follow Him.

GOD FULFILLS HIS PROMISES. Same as how He reminded Joshua with the death of Moses, He also wants us to feel secured that His promise is not dependent on man but on Him alone. Like the Israel, we are also in a journey to receive the fullness of the promise, a journey that wasn’t guaranteed to be easy, and a walk that will have its ups and downs. But like them, God wants us to see that He is the only One that will help us make it through. He wanted us to see that He is the giver and the source of every blessing and not anyone else.

GOD IS ALWAYS PRESENT. God told Joshua in verse 5, as I was with Moses, so will I be with you, I will not fail you nor forsake you’. God has truly bounded us with His love. His attention will always with us. God’s presence is always all around us; he is always there in both good times and bad times. And in verse 9, He said not to be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go’. That at times, we may feel distant, hopeless and abandoned, we should not fear because He is always there for us, He is the source of our strength, He gives us wisdom and touches people to help us get through. God surrounded us with people that showed loves proving that He has never left us all the years.

GOD WANTS US TO PROSPER. It is indeed true that God will never fail us. But He also said that we should be courageous and be firm in observing the word of God. In verse7, He gave the laws, not to turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it’. Life is not easy and God wants us to seek encouragement from Him, that we may feel secured. We should not deviate and not try to separate God’s blessings with obeying his words. We cannot read the Bible and not see the goodness and greatness of God. We must work towards having a commitment in improving our relationship with the Father.

This message is applicable to all of us especially as we enter another new year. We must always be ready and be available whenever we are called. We should not plan and just give these plans in the hands of the Lord. If we desire to do something, we must think ahead, decide and act. In all the aspects of our lives, we must continually make efforts to improve by abiding what God wants us to do. To obey Him is foremost and supreme. Moreover, we must persevere, act with discipline and be consistent in following His word despite the challenges we may face.

And as we continue with our ministries in serving the Lord, let it be known that we serve the one true God. It is not about us; it is not always waiting and wanting what we can receive from God; it is not only praying because we need something; it is not following Him because we only need answers to our prayers; but it is seeking Him to be with us at all times.. It is obeying Him and following Him.. It is serving Him for His glory. We become truly successful if we humble ourselves to our Father. As a true servant, let us not miss any opportunity to serve the Lord. Let us all plan for the coming years that His name and His glory be known.

Truly, God is faithful. Our success is established in following God and His word. His grace strengthens us and His mercy is new every morning. God bless you all throughout the year!!

The past year has certainly been a year of change, In January our beloved Pastor Vic Mario Lopez, along with his beautiful wife Melissa and the two kids J.D. and Joshua left us to pastor the WIN church in Silicon Valley, U.S.A.
To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1

The past year has certainly been a year of change, In January our beloved Pastor Vic Mario Lopez, along with his beautiful wife Melissa and the two kids J.D. and Joshua left us to pastor the WIN church in Silicon Valley, U.S.A. This was a time of sadness, and uncertainty for all, with many tears being shed. But sometimes, God’s plans are not our plans, and even in times of sadness and difficulty He is still in control. He knows what’s best for each and every one of us.

With our new Pastor, Manny De Leon and family, not due to arrive until July, this left a big challenge for the WIN Ireland Church. However, we were not left to fend for ourselves, and we really appreciate the great teaching and preaching we received from our visiting pastors. A BIG THANKS, to Pastor Rene Nepumoceno, Pastor Stefan Tiran, Pastora Ching Langsang and of course our very own Pastor Manny De Leon.

WIN Ireland Children's Ministry

This was also a time of challenge for the leaders, to oversee the day to day running of the church, the on going building work etc. It was also a time when the leaders where challenged to enhance their gift of exhortation. Praise the LORD, all things work together for good, to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose, and despite the challenges the church continued to grow.

On June the 12th we participated in the Philippine’s 112th Independence Day in Dublin, and showed the love of Jesus by giving free tea, coffee, juice, and cookies to one and all. More importantly , we also distributed gospel literature and where able to speak to others about our LORD Jesus Christ.

On July 15th–18th we had our Annual Family Camp at Johnstown House in Enfield, County Meath. With a guest speaker from Focus on the Family Ireland, Pastor Stephen Cardy. This was a truly blessed time of refreshing and relaxation, and of fun and fellowship for all. With four people accepting the LORD as their personal saviour, and seven people going through the waters of baptism.

July also brought blessings of a different kind with the arrival of Pastor Manny and Lily De Leon and their two beautiful girls Keziah and Hannah, on 8th and 9th the From Frankfurt Germany. Pastor Manny soon had his hands to the plough and began ironing out any creases and moulding us into shape, and getting to grips with the things that needed doing.

In a busy month we also started a new outreach in county Cavan in the house of Brother Dennis and sister Mildred Santillian. With three couples and three to five singles attending on a regular basis. Pastor Marlon Almonte and Brother Jojo Geroche also took the first steps to establish an outreach in Cork, with separate visits to the house of Brother Elmo and Sister Diwata Gutierez. I thank the LORD for all the leaders who are involved in these ministries.

In August we where able to send six youth delegates, along with three leaders, and our pastor to the EU/ Mid-East Youth Camp in the U.K. We also established a new Young Adults ministry, on the 16th who meet every Tuesday in the house of Pastor Manny.

In October , we celebrated ten years of God’s goodness and faithfulness, for the church here in Ireland, with our theme “Strengthening Our Grip”. A wonderful time of celebration, with special numbers from the Youth, the Women (WINGS), and the Children. The only challenge here was where to put all the visitors, with the church packed to overflowing, with a special visit from the Ambassador Ariel Abadilla . We also had our first meeting with pastors from the U.K., in order to establish our partnership, our ethos, and our goals.

WIN Ireland Church Leaders Touring Israel

On November 12-19 I had the privilege of being part of our first official WIN Europe/ Mid-East pilgrimage to Israel. A truly amazing trip all round, and a must for all of God’s people. Please read Pastora Ching’s report, and prepare for the next trip. I know for sure I will return again.

In November we also established a new ministry for our men, Christ’s Carpenters. “ Building Lives”. Truly we have a lot to be thankful for here in Ireland. I feel like John as I’m writing this when he says “ and there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they where written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written” John 21:25. Even though we go through changes and challenges, even though we go through time of sickness and grief, God is always there. He is walking by our side, watching our steps, guiding our way, and blessing us much more than we could possibly imagine. Let us continue to desire a closer walk with Him, let us keep on drawing nearer to Him, and let us continue to thank and praise Him for all the blessings He bestows on us, and let us continue to share all these blessings with others in need.

Please continue to pray for our Pastor Manny and his wonderful family as they continue to shepherd the church and adjust to life here in Ireland.

For our charity status and our building permit. For the many people who are sick within the church especially Sister Marnie Lopez, and Brother Nimrod Robles. Let’s also pray for the WIN-Carrickmacross Church, and the outreaches in Cavan and Cork and wherever else the LORD may lead us. Also pray for our partnership with WIN U.K., and the Seaman’s Christian Friend Society. Let’s look forward to the year ahead, excited at what the LORD will do in our church, in our region and even to the ends of the earth. Let us think big and pray big, for truly we have a big God. God bless you all real good in 2012.

God is at work and in control. Truly, He is our God.. The God of impossibilities, the giver.. The one who blesses and He love us! Indeed He is the master weaver!
It was year 2008 when I followed my husband here in Ireland-(through an invitation from my sister-in-law). We know for a fact that the situation would be indefinite for us; that it will be difficult; and that it is temporary; that there will be challenges before us. And yes, there were really tough and trying times- Events in our lives that almost tear us apart. But we thank God that in those times, God continues to show us and teach us that there is no other source of joy- no other source of happiness but only through Him. He taught us the value of humility, he taught us the value of patience during discouragements and that He is a good God!!
I arrived here at the time when recession was at its peak. There were no vacancies in both hospitals and nursing homes. My husband worked as a stay-in Carer and myself with different sort of part-time jobs but very few and far between – but looking back- we thank God because He really provided for us- which we were able to make ends meet. He taught us simple joys in things and the true essence of happiness. In all these, we thank God for bringing us to a place where we will both grow in Him. When we were in the Philippines, we were just church attendee and sometimes we don’t even attend the service regularly.
My husband went to Ireland ahead of me; we were separated for more than 3 years.

Circumstances started to change (during the latter part of those three years) when my husband would tell me that He has found a church that welcomed him as a family; that he’s becoming more than an attendee- but becoming more active in the church; and that He belonged to a care group that has welcomed him as a completely. One time, I was able to talk to bro. Jojo and Sis. Mailah, as we were introduced on the phone- it was a casual but very heart-warming conversation. I didn’t know why- but it left me crying into tears after our conversation- but for sure it was tears of joy that comforted me- that comforted us as we are miles away.
It wasn’t easy and clear. Living here in Ireland, as an undocumented, is very hard. It is something that we did that we asked for forgiveness and grace. We come to the Lord with honesty; I remember one time when we had our Bible study with Pastor Manny at Sis. Anette’s house –he shared: Come to the Lord with honesty and He will even make a way. Indeed, it is true! God’s mercy is complete and above justice- His mercy is more!

It is our prayer that I will be able to work here so that we can process our papers, and therefore legally stay here. Impossible it may seem, but yes! It became possible! Through God’s grace!
Decision for my eligibility for adaptation came out August 5 of 2009, it was my husband’s birthday. From then on we never stopped sending resumes to nursing homes across Ireland, reaching even far south to Cork. On the night of our church anniversary, year 2009 (we were still in Red Cow then) I received a voice mail from Sister Bernadette (with turn of events, happened to be my employer now) scheduling me for an interview. Following day was the scheduled interview, the evaluation went well – BUT I wasn’t hired because I still don’t have my PIN number. It was very depressing. I was heavyhearted while I was walking back home- It was probably the loneliest walk I can recall. I was crying. I prayed to God and surrendered everything to Him; that He be the one in control; that it is not in our hands but HIM alone.
So many trials happened from then on- those that emotionally crushed both of us.
But we thank the Lord that despite all – we remain strong and faithful. Despite difficulties, we remained as one. We thank the Lord that during these very trying times; we were surrounded with love by our family here in Ireland and back home; the WIN Ireland family and of course our Ballsbridge family.

It was very difficult. There were times that we almost gave up. We decided that if our papers will not be processed- there’s no other way but for us to go back home; that if my eligibility would expire then we’re set to go back to Philippines August of 2010.
I was worrying a lot- not for myself- but for my husband most importantly. He has a thyroid problem and because of that he needs regular blood tests and regular check-up for his medication. I have too many worries- that what if one of us gets sick? How will we pay for our bills? How will we pay for our hospitalization? Which hospitals will we go in case something happens; what if they would ask for our papers? Etc. And then it happened… one time after coming from church- my husband suddenly complained of chest pain and almost breathless. We were on the bus coming from Red Cow with nanay and ate laly. We asked the bus to drop us to nearest stop as my husband cannot breath. I was trying to call sis. Mailah but she was on her way to Monaghan that time. It’s difficult when you feel you are in a helpless condition. We were on the street as my husband was lying off the road. We couldn’t even get a taxi because it’s not the usual busy street. Then my fears started to run again. It was very difficult to see your loved one suffering and you cannot do anything. Praise God that we were able to overcome our fears and headed to the hospital. He was admitted overnight for cardio clearance and we got it! God is so good! He provided for all our needs according to His riches and glory!

We realized that worrying lead us to nowhere. BUT TRUST CAN. FAITH CAN. God understands our fears. And that is the time when HE wants us to seek HIM more. We should always put in our hearts that HIS love and power will get us through! God already knows what we want and what’s good for us. He knows our prayers and the desires of our heart. We just need to wait- and us we wait- He needs us- He needs us to worship HIM, He needs our time, He needs our attention, He needs complete surrender and before he changed our circumstances- He changed our hearts first. We thank God that despite all the trials- He continues to give us strength and He looks after us.

Then it all happened! God provides JUST IN TIME! NOT A MINUTE LATE! Months before my eligibility expires, I was listed for my adaptation. God indeed uses people so HE can fulfill His promises. We thank God for the lives of our Sis. Bing & Bro. Ian for referring me to Ate Nida (their friend), who in turns recommended me to Sister Bernadette. And this time, she hired me! Truly, God never fails to accomplish HIS purpose in us, if we surrender everything to HIM.
I had to go back to the Philippines to arrange my visa for another re-entry. This is time God used again another important person in our life again, sis. Mailah for my visa. Every time I travel back home there were uncertainties whether I will be able to go back again or not. But still, God continued to move in our loves and made everything possible. My visa was disapproved at first, I almost gave up again but my husband would tell me that God doesn’t want husband and wife or a family to be separated. And we continued to hold on. We are claiming the victory and that God is always with us all throughout! We had to make an appeal and thank God!! It was approved!!!
On the day of my arrival, I was just an hour earlier before the airport closed due to ash falls from volcano in Iceland that erupted. If I was more than an hour late, I would be days late for my courses prior my training which then would affect the schedule of my adaptation. Again, God is never a minute late! He will make a way—a way impossible to our eyes but possible to HIM. Our job is to OBEY! God has made us a grand promise. And He is always true to His word.
We thank God for preparing us.. For preparing our hearts.. For his guidance and for His love as HE use us in the ministry as we continue to serve HIM.
We would also like to thank you all – our WIN Ireland family for all your prayers, for all your support, understanding, acceptance and love; that even if I am miles away you never failed to communicate your love to us through your emails and messages. Your prayers helped us through.
Indeed, He loves us unconditionally. He’s love is infinite.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well – intentioned but overbearing
regulations were set in place. Reports of 6 – year old boy charged with sexual
harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using
mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student,
only worsened his conditions.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job
that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.
It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to
administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents
when student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and
criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar
in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that
a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly
awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents Truth and Trust, by his
wife Discretion, his daughter Responsibility, and his son Reason.
He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers:
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I’m A Victim.
Not many attended his funeral because few realized he was gone. If you still
remember, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.
Perhaps, this is because Dads tend to be less expressive than Moms and are often reserved in nature. Even if this is the case, we should not undermine the sacrifices he has made and the love and tender care he has showered upon us. Someone has rightly said – A father carries pictures where his money used to be. Today, in the materialistic world, we often become so engrossed with our families consisting of spouse and children that we overlook the simple courtesy of saying thanks and express our gratitude to our old men – our fathers, our dads, our tatays/itays, our tatangs and papas. Happy Father’s Day!

a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.
One of the most anticipated biblical teachings in our Church is about parenting.
A Parenting Seminar conducted by Senior Pastor Rene Nepomuceno and Sis Rosanna Nepomuceno of WIN-UK – 5 June 2011, Dublin Ireland.

One of the most anticipated biblical teachings in our Church is about parenting. We as parents longed for conversation with each other on our experiences with caring for our children in the design the Lord wants. We are so blessed to have a full house of attendees – not just parents but youth as well. We have learned so much of what parenting is about to what it is not. We had a chance to be open up to others about our similar experiences and unique situations with our young children, teenage sons and daughters. In the end, it was a very enriching and worthwhile experience learning from Pastor Rene and Sis Rosanna about the biblical perspective of the best role in the world that is parenting. These are the learnings we reflected upon from this topic.

What is Parenting? We define Parenting to what it is not which are:

1. It is not merely to have babies to feed and clothe them.
2. It is not giving children what they want.
3. It is not scolding.
4. It is not moulding them to our culture.
5. It cannot be done by Proxy.
6. It is not sending children to school.

Parenting is a biblical concept and is therefore a story.

Parent – “Omnah” : According to the Old Testament book of Esther 2:20. It means bringing up, nourishment, rearing, training, providing for. Giving identity. According to Deutoronomy 6:4-7 Parenting means impressing upon Children. How to mold children. How they think, who they are.

Parenting – not just feeding them but giving them idenity. Faith, origin and purpose. Family name gives identity to a person – the root. Deut 6:20-25

Providing their needs as Father provides for our needs. See references in 1 Kings 8:9 and Matthew 6:8.

Well Being - healthy food, safe shelter, clothing. Proper education, sports / exercise, appreciation = love which comes from God. Draw from the love of the Father.

Belongingness / Stability- Family ties. Play, friends, titos, community, teams, groups, hobbies, problems and solutions =====> GOD

Children ‘s Needs - As parents we need to open up our doors to talk with them. Allow our children to come to us and therefore it is a need to be satisfied.

Discipline ( Proverbs 22:6) – training which include mentoring, teaching, and coaching.

Moulding to them Godly virtues and characters ( Deut 6:4-7). – respect, honesty, purity, dignity, and industry

Hands on Role – The role of parenting is given by God to humanity, not meant to be delegated.

Adam (Red Earth in Greek) – referred as the first parent of the human race.

Schools are not a substitute for parenting. When we face our Lord, we will be assessed on how we took care of our children and not the church or the school they attended.

Stages Parent Role Presence
Infancy Pattern Both Present

Childhood Pattern/Moral Both Present

Puberty (10-12) Moral / Social/ Sexual Both Present

Adolescent (12-18) Moral/ Social/ Sexual Father and son Mother and daughter

Young Adulthood Social / Career Guidance

Adulthood Honouring Independent

Idle mind is the workshop of the devil

Be wise enough to choose a partner that will be a good parent someday.

Hello WINKERS, I know this is kind of late… but better late than never…. If you don’t have any ideas for Mother’s Day here’s one good lesson. Make sure you prepare before hand with craft ideas after this lessons.

  Teaching Plan: Honor Your Mother

(a special children’s church lesson for mother’s day)

Introduction / Hook: Ask the children to close their eyes and try to picture the person you describe. Say, “Think of a woman in your life that has spent more time helping you than any other person.”

“Today, we are going to learn what kind of attitude God wants us to have toward our parents. This is true for moms and dads, or foster parents, or grandparents who take care of you. But we are going to talk a lot about moms today because it is mother’s day.”

Active Listening: Say, “In just a minute we are going to read a Bible verse that teaches us how God wants us to treat our parents. While we read it, I want you to listen for any action words (verbs) that you hear. Then we’ll review to see how many you could find.”

Bible Passage: Display Ephesians 6:1-3 or have the children look it up in their Bibles. Read the Bible verses to the class; be sure to emphasize the action words discussed below. Then read it a second time to give the children a “second chance” to hear the action words. Ask the children to repeat the Bible verse after you several times or you may use the SKETCHY TECHNIQUE.

Review Action Words: Ask volunteers to explain which action words they heard in the passage. For each response, ask the children to explain what the word means. They may need help from the class. After each word, clarify what the word means. Here are the words they should have heard, with meaning in italics.

Obey – Doing what a person wants you to do

Honor – Heart attitude about a person’s importance

Go well – Living a good life

Live (NIV says “enjoy long life”) – Staying alive a long time

{Objective #1} Is This Honoring Your Mother? Say, “Honoring means having a right attitude about someone and showing their importance in how you act.” Read the following statements, and have the children agree or disagree. If the statement is something that honors your mother, the children should stand up. If the statement is not honoring, the children should sit with arms crossed.

Doing what mom says right away {True}

Throwing a fit if you don’t get what you want {False}

Eating your dinner with thankfulness {True}

Complaining about what mom cooked for dinner {False}

Telling your mom that you love her {True}

Praying for your mom {True}

Telling other people your mom is not nice {False}

{Objective #2} What I like about you . . . Have the children write and decorate a letter to their mother (or caretaker) that answers this question. If you have many younger children present, they will need help writing. Encourage them to draw a picture that goes along with what they like. It may be helpful to write common words or phrases on a marker board to help the children write their letters. Some possible examples:

I like the way you read to me

I like the way you help me when I’m hurt

I like it when you pray for me at bedtime

I like it when you hug me

I like it when you take me shopping

Share It: Ask for several volunteers to share what they wrote to their mother.

Optional: You can add a picture of the child to the card using a Polaroid camera or digital camera.

Optional: Show the Ruth Story video clip from Jelly Telly and talk about how it relates to mothers.

Closing: Lead the children in prayer …

Happy Mother’s Day!

Our family is fine by the grace of God. The Lord has favored us with a smaller home but He has filled it with many blessings. He also allowed us to buy a beautiful Nissan Quest van that suits our needs. (By the way, I passed my full license drive test just last Tuesday, Hallelujah!) We are also enjoying the warmer weather here plus the ‘Filipino ambience’ of Jollibee etc. : ) (Kaya kami tumataba… ng kaunti, hehehe!). JD has been selected in the school’s volleyball team and he’s really enjoying it along with his growing interest in music. Although, he’s struggling a bit with some subjects like Algebra and History, (he was placed in Grade 8 here because of his age where supposedly Grade 7 is the equivalent of his 1st year HS level there in Ireland); Mel and I are trying to motivate and help tutor him so he can cope up especially when he goes to High School next year. (We’d appreciate your prayers on this). Joshua though has adjusted well in the Grade 6 class he’s at. His report card and performance in school has been consistently high enabling him to be in the Honor roll last quarter, and even his science project got selected to be one of the school entries in the District level next month! (Thanks to his mom who helped him finish it : )! Both boys are growing up so fast and enjoying playing basketball with their new Kuya’s here. JD has improved in playing the drums and is now trying his hand on the keyboards as well. Joshua naman is learning to play Bass and also sings back-up during Youth Sundays every last Sunday of the month.

Mel and I are also fine and seeing God help us lead the new church here in Silicon Valley. Indeed, this is God’s church and it is His strategy and vision that we must pursue to grow this church. There are challenges but we are also thankful for the support of the members in following God. We have introduced changes / improvements in the Children’s Ministry and re-established the Bible Study groups. We are slowly developing a more Family oriented atmosphere during the worship service as well. Please pray for us and also the coming church anniversary on May 22 with the theme ‘Discovering the Manifold Grace of God’ from 1 Peter 4:10. We’re also having a Youth Camp on July 26-29 at the beautiful mountain camp site at Redwood Glen together with our sister church WIN-San Francisco. We have entitled it “SOUL’D OUT” with the theme ‘Holding Nothing Back’. Pray that God would bless these ministries plus also our desire to put up a bible study / outreach in Sacramento, CA (2 hours from here). We went there last month to visit some contacts who are interested to have a WIN church planted there.
Thank you so much for all your prayers and may God continue to encourage you as well to remain faithful and obediient to him. I wish to thank you for supporting Pastor Manny and his family in this transition time and more so when they arrive this July. God bless you all always!!

Every year – on Summers back home in the Philippines and middle Spring here in Ireland we look forward to this day or week as it we usually have a long weekend break. But do we really know what’s the true meaning of Jesus’s resurrection to our lives? We know of its pagan origins and during our younger years we celebrated it with bounty of food much like Christmas without the gifts and decorations. Our parents even calls it “Pasko ng Pagkabuhay”. Its like celebrating a “Christmas” in April but instead of shopping malls filling up with lanterns, santa claus and frosty the snowman, we see bunny rabbit statues and easter eggs. Children are especially excited to join easter egg hunts and going to fairs and attending family picnics. My godmother even sponsored an easter egg painting and hunt in our compound (when i was maybe 8 years old) and I found the most eggs and won a toy! Its indeed a family event that we all look forward too.

As an adult Christian, I know there is more to it than just all those things. I recall that during the Holy Week commemorations back home in the Philippines which concludes on the Easter Sunday, we hold a big family reunion. We have our sisters and their families and extended families come visit our house in Quezon City and we enjoy each others company. We have a program that we go do for the whole day! But we never really trully appreciated the fact that it is the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is what makes Easter what it is. Jesus triumphed over sin and satan! We know that Jesus resurrected after He died from the Cross to save all of mankind from sin and to be with His Father in heaven for all eternity. He is now spiritually present with us while we are here on earth and not just in physical body during his ministry in earth.

As Christians should we celebrate Easter? From the Bible’s point of view, what is the meaning of Easter? Should we celebrate it? From the biblical perspective “Easter” has no meaning. In other words, the particular celebration on a set day of the year of the resurrection of Jesus is not mentioned or even hinted at in the Bible. Having said that, there is evidence very early in church history for the church celebrating what we now call Easter.

The celebration is not “biblical” in the strict sense, but like when we celebrate Christmas It is hard to think of anything wrong with celebrating and remembering the resurrection of Jesus, as long as the remembrance can retain its spiritual meaning and not simply become a meaningless ritual. Of course, in the world, there is a lot of pagan methods and practices to the celebration of Easter – The hiding and finding of eggs, the wearing of pretty dresses, talk about the Easter bunny and so forth are all tied to ideas about fertility which clearly derive from pagan sources.

Obviously, we do not attach religious significance to such things. Perhaps we will choose to completely reject involving Easter egg hunts as part of our celebrations of the resurrection of Jesus, and I think that is right. It seems that these things tend to take away from any real spiritual significance of Easter. Over and above the celebrations, Easter can be a powerful reminder to us of one of the most significant events in the history of humanity–the resurrection of our Lord and Savior from the dead, which is the first fruits of the harvest of souls for eternity.

Now, as matured Christian do we celebrate Easter? Actually we do celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ everyday of our lives as we continue to obey his commandments and help propagate His Word with everyone we meet. We should celebrate Easter in our hearts and spirit everyday!

Please share with us your way of commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ that is Easter.

Happy Easter to all!

- A Reflection on Pastora Ching Lansang’s Sunday Worship Service Message last 10 April 2011, Dublin Ireland
WE have learned today that Fasting is a discipline that every Christian must adopt to. The main thought of Fasting is the abstaining from food for spiritual purposes. In biblical sense, Fasting always caters to on spiritual purposes (Zechariah 7:5)
What’s Fasting all about?
1. First of all it is God ordained and God initiated. We musn’t dictate to our fasting but let the guidance of the Holy Spirit to lead us to fast.
2. Fasting also teaches us self control, moderation, constraint and leads to the same attitudes towards other things in life.
3. We must know that Gluttony is one of the deadly sins.

4. It teaches us self denial as followers of Jesus Christ. (Mathew 6:16-18)
5. Fasting is not to seek attention from others and its not for showing off.

Why do we need to Fast?
Fasting must be done with the right motives. Over and above it is an act of worship that will lead to glorifying God. When we fast we divert our attention from food to seeking God in prayer.

What are kinds of Fasting:
1.Normal fast- abstaining all food except water
2.Partial fast – restricted diet
3.Absolute fast – no food or water (Acts 9:9)
4.Supernatural Absolute fast – 40 days of no food and no water
5.Corporate or public fast – Annual fast (Joel 2:15). for Spiritual emergencies
Note: We can survive without food but not without water. Recall the Japanese Tsunami survivors.

The Practice of Fasting:
1. Progression should be observed
2. Begin with a partial fast if 24 hours duration once a week.
3. After 2 or 3 weeks you can attempt a normal fast 24 hrs
4. After several fasts with degree of success move up to 36 hrs fast
5. Pray upon the Lord about fasting for a longer period.

Purpose of Fasting: (Refer to Bible Verses for additional reference)
1. Acts 13:2- fasting unto God- God places a burden in our heart. It is our willingness of self discipline.
2. psalm 69:10- personal sanctification
3. Ezra 8:23 – to be heard
4. Jonah 3:5,10 – to change God’s mind
5. Isaiah 49:24-25- for deliverance from bondage
6. Daniel 9:2-3,21-22 – for revelation

Fasting for Personal Sanctity
1. Fasting is the divine corrective to the pride of human heart
2. Fasting means humbling and mourning for repentance and confession (Ezra 8:21, ISA 58:3)
3. We move from personal mourning if our sins to mourn for the sins of the church and the nation
4. Consecration unto God. (Acts 13:2-3)

To be Heard on High:
So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer (Ezra 8:23)
Fasting is connected with seeking God drawing near to God (Isaiah 58). Prevailing with God
The man who prays with fasting is giving heaven notice that he is trully earnest.

For Revelation
Daniel 9:2-3, 21-22
Acts 2:17, Joel 2:28
Peter led to the Gentiles- Acts 10:9-23
Angelic message to Paul – acts 27:21-26

Benefits of Fasting
1. Time set apart for ministering to God
2. Fasting reveals what controls us
3. Fasting reminds us that God sustains us (Matt 4:4)
4. Fasting helps us keeping balance in our life (1 Cor 6:12)
5. Improved physical well being
